TAKTSE DUBCHO RITUAL AT SHAR GADEN | | Print | |
An update from Shar Gaden Monastery of a four-day Taktse Dubcho Ritual in March 2010. This ritual is the auto-initiation of the 13 deity Yamantaka. Yamantaka is a Mahayana Buddhist yidam of the highest yoga tantra class in Vajrayana, popular within Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism. Seen as a wrathful manifestation of Manjushri, the bodhisattva of wisdom, Yamantaka also functions as a dharmapala in other contexts.
Readers' Comments
Yamantaka is a Sanskrit name that can be broken down into two primary elements: Yama, the God of Death; and Antaka, or "terminator". Thus, Yamantaka's name literally means 'The terminator of death".
