Trijang Buddhist Institute

Trijang Buddhist Institute (TBI) is the North American seat of H.H. the 18th Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche, located in the north-east state of Vermont in the USA. The center was formally offered to His Holiness in September 2004 and has since been under his spiritual guidance.

The current incarnation’s foremost desire is to continue the legacy of his predecessor, the late Kyabje Trijang Dorje Chang. This perhaps hints of his future plans to spread Dorje Shugden’s practice to the world.

However, at this point in time, Kyabje Trijang Choktrul Rinpoche is unable to do so because of the political situation. In order to avoid death threats and constant hounding from some overzealous Dorje Shugden practitioners, he has chosen to reside in America, away from the Tibetan community.

TBI strives to bring benefit to all sentient beings, and serves those with an interest in Tibetan Buddhism and affinity with the Gelug tradition. As the Spiritual Director of the TBI, His Holiness guides all TBI’s activities and programs for the public, for ordained monks and nuns, as well as for future lay teachers.

TBI also has their own resident teachers and Sangha who have tutored the current incarnation of Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche and teach within the institute. TBI welcomes everyone of religious and non-religious backgrounds.
