Chennga Sonam Zangpo received his upasika vows from Chennga Drakjangwa and novice vows from Drakdorwa and Tsulgyalwa. He received teachings from Chennga Sonam Drakpa and was initiated into the four symbols by Chogowa Tsultrim Zangpo. He also received teaching from Tsongkhapa Lobzang Drakpa (1357-1419) and Sozangpa. In the colophon to Tsongkhapas Ngakrim Chenmo, Sonam Zangpo is credited with encouraging its composition. Readers' Comments
At the age of 29, in 1403, Sonam Zangpo assumed the abbacy of Densa Til, receiving an exposition on the Kagyu teachings from Lachen Rinshonpa. He also taught Hevajra at Tsetang. In 1415, he received final ordination from Tsongkhapa at Tashi Doka, with Gyalzangpa and Kunga Gyaltsan participating in the quorum. He passed away at the age of 37. Tashi Paltseg (1359-1424), the 9th Throne Holder of Taglung, oversaw his funeral and installed his successor, Chennga Sonam Gyaltsen (spyan snga bsod nams rgyal mtshan, d.u.). Source:
