When Geshe Rabten Rinpoche passed away in 1986, his students experienced directly the extraordinary signs of an enlightened master passing away.

Three years later, Gonsar Rinpoche, Geshe’s dearest and closest pupil discovered Geshe-la's incarnation who, through various sources that included His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, was confirmed to be the supreme incarnation.

This new incarnation of Rabten Rinpoche was born in 1987 and given the name Tenzin Rabgye Rinpoche. In the spring of 1998, the 10-year-old Rinpoche gave his first teaching in front of a group of 200 people in the monastery Rabten Choeling at Lake Geneva.

The young Rinpoche gave people advice on taking refuge. He spoke in a clear manner and in the familiar way of impressing people, which are recognizable characteristics of the former Geshe Rabten’s teachings. The listeners were deeply moved and the teaching brought tears to many.

The memory of Geshe Rabten Rinpoche lives on through the current incarnation of Tenzin Rabgye Rinpoche who, even in his tender years, is already showing clear traits of an emerging great master. This reaffirms everybody’s belief in reincarnation. This young Rinpoche is a living proof of the Buddha’s teachings.
